MoTrPAC Study

Study Type

Physical Activity

Study Purpose

We know that being physically active is good for our health, but there is not a clear understanding of what actually happens deep within the body to improve health when we exercise.

Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) is a nationwide research study, and the largest effort to date, aimed at understanding how physical activity improves health and prevents disease. The main goal of MoTrPAC is to gain a better understanding of how the body changes with physical activity. This will help researchers and doctors understand what exercise is best for each person’s unique body type.

About the Study

Participants will visit the Pennington Biomedical outpatient clinic for an orientation to learn more about the study. If interested in participating in MoTrPAC, participants will attend a screening visit to determine if you are eligible for the study. Once enrolled, participants will be randomly assigned to 12 weeks of either resistance exercise training, endurance exercise training, or control group.

If assigned to one of the two exercise groups, participants will visit the Pennington Biomedical fitness center three days a week for 12 weeks to engage in exercise training with onsite trainer. Various tissue sampling will be performed at different points during the study to assess how your body is changing as you exercise.
