Study Purpose

The RAATE research studies will evaluate if physical activity programs, developed with input from older African American adults, can help improve brain function in areas such as attention and memory in an effort to reduce the risk of developing dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

About the Study

RAATE study participants will visit the Pennington Biomedical Outpatient Clinic for an orientation visit prior to enrolling in the study. Once enrolled, participants will be randomly assigned for 1 year to either a physical activity program or a successful aging program.

Physical activity sessions will take place at a local community setting twice per week and participants will also be asked to complete at home physical activities that will slowly increase over time. Successful aging participants will attend group sessions once per week for 6 months and then twice a month for 6 months.
